hey all, after failing to finish the hep.c treatment i have a new goal, to get off the GREEN stuff, im prescribed 80ml aday and couldnt go down while on treatment but since finishing i have managed to cut it by half so i take 35 to 40m aday, i still get 80ml aday as my drug worker left to have a baby and they left me with now drug worker as i wasnt a problem 2 them, so they just posted my script out to the chemist, i have recently been given a new drug worker and my next prescription will b dropped 15ml and also im on 18mg of diazapam aday which is also bein dropped 2mg, they help me sleep at night. i have been on methadone for about 5yrs and have enough, me and my partner reduced down to about 20ml about 4yrs ago and were planning on going on subitex but relapsed due to a problem and using heroin as a crutch. i dony use it as a crutch anymore, things go wrong in my life all the time but heroin doent help, dont even think about the devils medicine. reducing is quite easy for me and i dont even feel frightened, what terrifies me is the detox, even tho ive been on herioin on and off since i was 17y/o and now im nearly 26y/o and havent touched heroin for errrrmmmm ova a yr, i have never really rattled, well proper rattled anyway. The 1st time i rattled in a bad bad way was when i decided fuck this im getting scripted and went to the local drug service and got on methadone. But i am determined to do my rattle b4 next year and also wana start college in sept. i want to become a probation worker so that is my goal!!!!! me and my husband work really well together and do are rattles together, we always have been able to stick by each other and r soul mates and think alike so we want the same things out of life and the 1st thing is to get off methadone!!! anyone have any advice regarding the detox thank you all love Kimbo
Have you tested to see if your Hep C has stayed gone? I went through a 24 week course last year. Know what you mean, it's not a lot of fun, sooner they come up with a better treatment the better. Fortunately you're young enough to wait for the breakthrough. And it definitely seems the people who report no side-effects don't lose their hep either. So it's quite possible you're the exact opposite.
I'm not clear how long you lasted. 12 weeks? Some research suggests a 12 week course is all some people - esp.like you who 'clear' after 4 weeks- need and any longer the side-effects outweigh the advantages. I'd be very interested to hear your results.
Good luck with your meth reductions - a lot of peops find it relatively easy till you get to the late stages. I know a 68 year old lady who has been on 1ml a day for the last five years. Reduced from 160 to 10 in 2 years, then found it got tough and went a lot slower. Now just can't lose the last bit. Weird. Take care.

Maybe not so weird if you think about it in %, 5ml of 160ml is 8% of her dose, assuming she reduced 5ml each time. Even if she reduces to 0.5ml that's still a 50% reduction. I've never been in that position but I think the last 10ml of a reduction would be the hardest. I know a couple of people who used small amounts of gear to taper off their methadone reduction & it has worked so far I don't think it would work for me though. Anyway, All the best for your reduction. Keep us up to date if you can.
like you I have given up the fantasy of heroin, which I thought was going to be a life long love affair where i was always going to lose everything periodically. Hence over ten rehab visits. However I stopped using gear about a year ago and have never looked back and believe me there has been times when i have been surrounded with the drug for extended periods of time. I came down from 160 ml, converted to subutex in detox got down to 0.4 mg. Now I am back up to 8 mg of suboxon or 6mg of subutex if I can find it. I terminated my treatment with the local drug service about 2 weeks ago as they had become difficult and obstructive with their crappy treatment regime and a regime it was. I was inches away from grabbing my file of the drugs worker when I told them I would be back. On that subject I am not beyond going back to get that file. Not that their is anything in it that I wouldn't discuss on here, however its the principal that I gave them all that information and they done bollox all with it, other than collect it. They are idiots of the highest order the script police... sorry got distracted
hi,there kimbo i am in a similar situation to you (except for the hep part, really feel for you with that mate,i have a friend with hep c too so i know a little bit about it. i mean similar in the fact that i have not had any heroin in a couple of days shy of 12months,i am currently on 120 mls meth daily and 40 mg diazepam and 20mg nightly on temazepam,my goal is to be a councillor/substance missuse helper of some sort,i'm 42 now and time is against me in that respect,i am hoping to start a course in collece september but i don't know which level to start off at.can you tell me how long you have to be off any meds before the service will even think of taking you on.i was on the class a for 20 years and i want to make something of my life, and i hope it will be by trying to help other people, just like you two are hoping to do.i personally think an ex user would be far more valuable than just text book workers, even though they mean well, thry just cannot relate to what an addict has been through.i live in wales and the only councillors etc we have are text book taught.i would be really grateful for any info that you could pass on to me(i only joined today and plucked up yhe courage to write it down after reading your blog!!!looking forward to hearing from you and good luck!!

Probation officer, drugs worker seem to be quite similar jobs nowadays. Hope that you achieve your goals & really make a difference by using your personal experiences. As a proper drugs worker shouldn't be similar to a probation officer in any way, it's just because of what drugs workers seem to be taught using the text books that you mention & having no real experience. Such is the anti-substance use world that we currently live in though. Go out there & tell them what it is really like & rattle a few cages !
