Welcome to the Alliance's brand new forum. We want this to be a place where you can ask questions and get answers, join in discussions about drug policy and practice in the UK and around the world and get to know a little about the Alliance.
While we welcome frank and open discussion, there are a few things which will not be accepted in this forum:
We will remove any content that may put us in legal jeopardy
We will remove any posts which are threatening or offensive
We will not tolerate prejudice in any form
Contributors who ignore these rules risk being banned from the site. If you are considerate towards other forum members, you should have no difficulties.
We hope you enjoy using this forum.

Hi Ursula
just making a courtesy first post. Hope this forum really gets going. We will advertise it on our forum (SMMGP) as I'm sure many of our members will be interested. Our experience was once you've got about 1oo members it really starts to get going. Good luck with the moderation.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for posting - it's always difficult to get these things rolling. Thank you for your good wishes about the moderation. I look forward to an influx of SMMGP members...

Dear Ursula,
I am delighted to see the website, you have done a great job. Thankyou Jim for your support.
I would like to welcome all who visit this site to learn more about the Alliance, it's work, advice, knowledge, training, helpline & advocacy service for those in need. I look forward your contribution's to this forum and what I hope will be lively, passionate and mutualy supportive debate.
Knowledge is power, the more we learn about ourselves, each other and the issues that impact on our lives and communities the better we will be empowered to
take back control over our lives. One key to this is being helped to become informed and active participants in the treatment process at all levels, including commisioning, planning & delivery. Without such change we will risk remaining marginalised, disempowered, passive, consumers of what others believe to be 'best' for us, irrespective of the evidence base, science and our rights as patients & human beings.
Best wishes, Alan Joyce.

Simon,
Certainly. I'm still learning how to update the main site, so it may be a wee while before I can add stuff, but any requests and feedback I get will be acted on as soon as possible.

Hi everyone my name is David and I have been a volunteer for the Alliance for 6 years now. In those 6 years I have learn't a fair bit about how to help drug users by giving advice and information. You see the wonderful thing about The Alliance is that most of us are drug/or ex users. I myself are on a methadone maintenance script, which as helped me get my life back together. I write a newsletter called the Heroin Herald of which copies of the newsletter can be found if you go to the Daily Dose site and do a search for Heroin Herald. Alternatively you can e-mail me with your details and I will e-mail or post you a copy send your e-mail to
angloadvocate999@aol.com
. Also the Heroin Herald has a website, just go to google and type in Heroin Herald and 'Bobs yer uncle'.
So I am here to help you with any problems connected with drugs, Best Wishes David

I will say these forums do take a while to get off the ground so don't be disapointed if it takes a while. The codeine free site took a while and now we have a lot of posters and people who are downdosing or are totally clean.
I am currently involved with my patients setting up a user group and I am very interested in my patients getting political, and want them to do so. I am pleased that we got a place from the dat for one patient to go to rcgp conference. I enjoy the user led seeminars there more than any other bit.
Best wishes

Hi Rokki
Great to be sharing a forum with you again but unfortunately neither Alan or I are going to Vancouver so we won't meet just yet.
This is an impressive website; well done Ursula.

As a visitor from the SMMGP site (and a GP myself) I am delighted to see your beautiful new site. I have been a long time admirer of the Alliance and its work, and have already found this forum helpful, following Daveywales's link, via his heroinherald site, to the World Health Organisations's article about recommended treatment of hepatitis C, which seems clear and very interesting. We have a way to go in this country, in getting everybody offered treatment. Thanks.

Hi Tony,
I've had a couple of people say that they haven't received a confirmation email. I'm looking into it and hopefully the problem will be sorted out today. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
