Flyboy,
I hope your Doctor is putting you on these drugs due to a clinical need not through any other reason, they wouldn't have been used on a whim.

I was put on Citalopram a couple of yrs ago. Messed me up a little to start with and did nothing I thought so I stopped them.
I'd be interested to hear if anyones stay on Citalopram for a while and if they helped?

my sister was on citalopram and they did nothing for her.when i was on them, they made me feel very dizzy as tho my eyes werre going into my head! then i went on to venlafaxine which helped a little but not much, then i went on to mirtazapine which help me sooo much, also my sister is on mirtazapine too and we both think they work wonders!

I have a friend who did very well on Citalopram, but it did take about a month for them to really kick in.  She was put on them for depression and anxiety, and it worked really well for the anxiety, which in turn meant that she was less depressed.

Hmmm, I only gave them 3 weeks max. Probebly why they didn't kick in.

I'm currently on Citalopram 20mg been on them for about 3-4 months and i feel fine i have also just started Methadone whilst on citalopram and feel fine. The only thing that has happend is that i have lost 1 1/2 Stone since i started them which to me isn't a bad thing.

Has anyone else lost weight on them and if so did you continue to or did it slow down?

I think when I started Citalopram, I was just coming of Heroin too, which is another reason they made me feel mankey.

As for loosing weight on them, I know I lost my appitite on them so I suppose you could loose weight on them.

Hi there,

It's the Mirtazapine that is affecting your metabolism, thus making you want to eat more (and put on weight).  I understand your frustration, as I was on Doxepin (Anten) whilst I was undergoing HepC (standard Interferon) treatment.  That's an anti-depressant of the tricyclic group and boy did it make me eat (and I put on a lot of weight!).  At first, the Doxepin treated the depression as well as the severe weight loss caused by the Interferon/Ribavirin, but when I started to put more and more weight on, I got depressed again. It became a catch-22 situation.

Regards,
Lydia.

I suffer from Bipolar Affective Disorder (Manic Depression) for which I am on Sodium Valproate 1400mg a day & Olanzapine 20mg a day.

Since going on these meds 3 years ago I have gone from 11 stone to 14 stone. I have spoken to my doctor who has told me that they both increase your appetite. For some reason since being on these meds I have no hunger during the day, but binge eat at night.
