Hi all,
Resurrecting a dead thread here because my post has just arrived containing a reminder that Summary Care Records are being rolled out in my area at the moment and that if I want to opt out I should do it now. I figured it would be worth reminding people that if they do want to opt out, the details of how to do that are here:

What was disgusting was not to include the opt out form in the Summary Care pamphlet that came around notifying you that your data was being added.
Outrageous.

In my area we haven't even been made aware of what's going on - I only know cos of looking at stuff on the Internet.
I mentioned it at my doctors surgery and they have now put up a poster in reception (whcih has made the receptionist who disliked me anyway dislike me even more as she had to sort the posters out!).
I did find a link on an NHS site that you have to fill in and give to your GP, I did this and received a letter from my local PCT saying my records would not be uploaded.
If anyone wants the link I'll try and find it for you.
In talking about this a huge amount of people want to opt out, my mum works at a university and most of the staff there are opting out, also my father and his friends - it seems no-one really wants to opt-in - way too many people able to scroll through all your private stuff. It's not that I have anything to hide even, I just don't want some nosy so and so browsing my shit just cos they can.

I'm wondering if Ursula(who resurrected the big opt out) or anyone else could help me, i downloaded the letter to give to your GP, but after doing so i was worried about what would be the down sides(if any) if i chose to go through with handing in the letter, i agree with the reasons for doing it but will there be some hidden clause that will mess things up for me in the future. I would be greatful for any reasurance Thanks and Take care, i think it's terrible that iv'e got to come on somewhere like this to discover something that has been about since 2007
P.S. also because it's been out so long is it to late to had the letter in.
Greatful for anyones help

Well I certainly gave my GP my letter to opt-out several weeks ago, he actually agreed with me talking about the amount of times a Government laptop or pen driver gets found on a train, taxi etc. The Government knows to much about us anyway without your health records being able to be accessed by The DWP off all people. I can just hear it now....." no I'm afraid you used to much of your National Insurance & taxes by using the Health Service for the last 40years to be eligible for a pension of any kind" !!!! Also their "sealed envelopes" , software designed to hold sensitive information for instance my visits to CPN's , Psychiatrists haven't even been developed yet!!! I now wear a chain around my neck with an "in case of emergency" locket on it saying what medication I am prescribed, any illnesses, allergies ( penicillin in my case )&phone numbers for my own GP & Drugs worker ( He's opting out to, new nothing about it till i told him!) That is the system that has worked for years with people who are diabetic, epileptic etc. Unless there is some real benefit to me I shall remain opted out of yet another Government abuse of the right to privacy.
