Thought that the carers' corner was an excellent opportunity for all of us carers to offer support to each other and I am surprised that no one has used it yet!! I am positive that there must be very anxious and worried mums, dads, brothers, sisters etc out there desperate to speak to someone.
I took the plunge and it is helping me, so come on, we can help each other.  I spent ages reading the posts before I offered some advice and I am so glad I did.

It must be frustrating knowing that there's a great site/forum that could help so many people and it's not being used much. I guess it'll take time for the word to spread. I know that it's very daunting putting your first post on, not knowing who's going to read it, I felt the same....but people, rest assured, this site is well monitored by vigilant and caring people who will do everything they can to answer any questions and stop anyone from being bullied or feeling worried about how others using the site will react to posts. There are so many people with so much to share that really will help others. Substance misuse can be very isolating, not only for the user but for families and loved ones too and with so little support out there for significant others. Don't wait until you are at your wits end and can't take anymore to use this forum, seek support before then, even if you think that your thoughts, feelings or questions seem silly...they won't be, I can guarentee you that there will other people out there in the same boat, with the same worries and questions...and some will have searched out the answers!

I think that we as staff need to make sure that we are appropriately publlicising this part of the site as well....

Yes, there's a few carers forums out there and I've put PADA's details, amongst others, in the collation of contacts I send out for info to carers.

The more the merrier I believe, hence the Alliiance 'Carers' corner'. It's a new link and may take a while to become known. Let's watch this space and see what happens. It can only be a good thing to have more resources.

Take care all
