RIP my son Sam

Dear all
I have been the advocate for the Alliance since October 2006. I haven't been around for a while because I took a six month sabbatical at the end of March 2010 to take my son Sam to Australia to see his family in the hope he would heal and have a better life there.
We returned early to the UK as things didn't work out and sadly Sam passed away on 5th October. It was a combination of peneumonia and accidental heroin overdose due to his compromised respiratory system. He'd suffered for a long time with a dual diagnosis and physical health problems after going off a cliff in August 2007 sustaining serious injuries.
It was all very sudden and unexpected so hence my silence and withdrawal from the Alliance community for a while. My life revolved around my son so it's been a very difficult time. I have been reading the forum but have felt unable to write this until now.
Take care of yourselves all of you.

Thank you Simon and Froude for your thoughts and prayers. Sorry you lost a son in 2005 Froude. No parent should know this kind of grief but it happens.
Take care

Keep busy is the only advice I can offer, you'll get good days and bad and then feel guilty for having good days.

Can never think of anything to say on such occasions. I can't see it hitting you other than hard and hope the grief doesn't overwhelm you. Take it slow, may it pass, good thoughts to you and other cliches, x.

Thanks for your thoughts Derek. It is overwhelming at times. I suppose something that does help me is that I believe in an afterlife but that's for another forum altogether. It did shake my beliefs to my very core when it happened though.
I haven't even had the inquest yet so that's looming like a large shadow. I'm just trying to keep occupied and am on and off the forum most days. Sometimes I can contribute and sometimes I can't.

Thanks Froude. You might be interested in the above link then re the afterlife. It's helped me. I dip into it now and again and read people's accounts of their experiences.
Take care, Linda

I am so sorry Linda. I must introduce myself as I had joined this site when you were away. I look at your posts and they are all so very helpful. I am so sorry to to hear your son passed away. I too lost a sister to drink and drugs, she was 31, the downfall started when she had a car crash and scarred her face badly. She used to be really pretty. But then she started stopping in and taking drugs and drink. She had wasted away on a mix of vodka shotties, zoppiclone, and a teenth of heroin daily. She was a dealer so didn't get much sympathy from the estate when she passed. Drug use is all over my estate and most people are dead against it. Most users just keep themselves to themselves and only a small amount go out shoplifting and robbing for their fixes.
All the best John
