A debate on "legalisong prostitution" after Ipswich and Bradford murders.

Today on local BBC radio we had a debate that took place back in September and traveled to the only state in America that it is legal in.
It is a long show, 3 hours but is very poignant - back in the early 50's, the answer was to extend the after school embroidery program! (quote - probably right for the time).
Liz Green Live is here on the iplayer.
This first hour is recorded from legal brothel's in the state of Nevada, the only state in America to legalize prostitution.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p00lgpjl/Liz_Green_Love_for_sale_a_journey_to_the_legal_brothels_of_Nevada/
You do need to listen to all three hours as the first hour is from america and what they do there.
The second is from Bradford, with the guy that runs the " i c me" project that has helped getting working women off the streets after the Ipswitch murders, also talk's about one of my close friends, Shelley Armitage - Bless her, she was a really nice lass! Including local MP's that agree, and there is also talk of giving the girls the drug on script.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p00lst4s/BBC_Leeds_Documentary_Love_for_sale_should_brothels_be_legal/
And the third hours is one-on-one with a former working girl, Julie Bindle, She tells us how she feels about legalising brothles UK wide.

Thought some of you would be interested to hear it.

And today the general public say what they think to Bradford getting legal brothals for the street girls to use with their punters.
Should we have legalized brothels in our county's?

I think that they need to tackle the drug misuse as legalizing it would not be tackling their addiction problems. (that's my view).

Treatment is available though, there's no reason that anyone that needs a substitute script shouldn't get one.
I do agree though that de-criminalised brothels would be safer.

I agree. As long as the drugs won't be taken on the premises. I know 15 year ago or so quite a few brothels in bradford an leeds they was getting off their faces in between seeing clients. I want them to be safe. But not spoil it by using illicit drugs on the premises if they got their way. I knew Shelley also. Great girl she was

The rest of the countries must have a good old laugh at us British,we got fuck all overhere,if there was licsensed brothels you would'nt get the all this shit with girls getting killed, plus the drug laws need looking at aswell, until then we will be living under draconian laws. The world is evolving and if legalising brothels is going to take vunerable girls off the street ,im all for it.All the best Froude

The thinng is though, prostitution and drugs will always go hand in hand, and it is far more complicated than girls being addicts, so they therefore work the streets, it has to do with self esteem, money, loads of shit really.
Sorting the drug issue out won't stop prostitution.

Unfortunately it ain't that easy, otherwise a lot of the respectable junkies you see around this forum would have emigrated long ago. Every country in the world, with the possible exception of a few small islands, is a party to the International Narcotics Control Board. In some of the places in Europe with diamorphine prescribing there is a time limit and possession after treatment can lead to imprisonment. I agree that the world is evolving, and believe that when drug legalisation comes in (which I expect in my lifetime) it will come in EU-wide if in Europe and in blocs of other countries, not just one at a time. There are too many political complexities to one state denouncing a UN treaty and going their own way.

To have any control over drugs or prostitution it has to be made legal so there can be suitable regulatory bodies set up, I've always thought the supply of recreational chemicals could be a nice little earner for the NHS ? Surely the weekend users & people employed on scripts would cover any shortfall for the unemployed dependant.

I got the Observer newspaper a couple of weeks ago & their was a big article by Colombias President calling for the legilisation of certain drugs-even cocaine & how is country is suffering with severe poverty because of the war on drugs.
In the Comment section their is a short article about how David Cameron in 2002 urged the Labour Government not 2 return 2 the war on drugs. He even for once in his life suggested a debate about legisllation & regulation on the global drugs dilemma.

I too is in favour of making prostitution legal, I don't know any working girls, But I guess thats its true that they have MP's, Poilce officers, Lords, Doctors etc etc who are punters.
This is what I hate about this country, You have them selected few that have gone to private schools, like eton, then to Oxford or Cambridge university, get into the government, become a MP, Lords and god knows what else they have going on.., secret society's etc
These few dish out what laws they like, or pull tricks to help there big C.O's etc, get paid or are given incentives from large company's and big pharma etc to change things to help these company's..
what I'm getting at that these selected few have power over all of us, tell us how we should live, but are the most deceitful hypocritical bastards out there..I'd love to know exactly what these F8ckers are really up too..
I just hate the fact that these "respectable figures in society" can tell us what to do in our own homes to our own bodys..
Sorry just ranting on..
When there was these terrible murders going on in Ipswich, etc, I remember saying to my Dad at the time, that if these girls where given, or able to get there substances, it might of saved lives, a lot these girls have probably had it shit from the day they where born, probably sexually and physically and mentally abused, which effects you for your whole life!.. been treated like shit, exploited, told they where worthless, usually by bastards that are self righteous, "pilers of the community"
If it makes it safer for these women that have to turn to prostitution then it should be done. F&ck what so called "morally right, religious bigots of the community" say make it safe for these girls.
Its these so called "Daily mail/express reading- Pilers of the community, MP's, Religious bigots " that truly worry me more, than any girls.
I came across this link today,
http://blogs.independent.co.uk/2011/11/24/let%E2%80%99s-have-an-honest-discussion-about-drug-use/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
I really wonder if there will be a day when drugs will become legal in my life time, If so will people look at the USA led prohibition we have now, with wonder and disbelief at a completely stupid way of controlling a natural human instinct to seek ways of changing there reality with plants and medications, that's gone on since the dawn of mankind.
If no human ever took any substances that are found in nature , we wouldn't of ever found substances to improve, our health, change our creativity and all the other things that we can get from nature. The Human brain is wired for certain drugs, Yes some are bad, but some are good. anyway I'm going onto subjects that are out of my depth..
Just how things are with prohibition now, with both issues, its causing more problems and harm to people, than it would if it was regulated sensibly imo....
