Methadone maintenance therapy is not illeagal in the UK. It is a matter for you & your GP to discuss whether you want to reduce or whether you feel safer being maintained on a dose. Enforced reductions rarely work is what the United Nations advises their member countries.
Where do you live, Pluto ? Do you not read any other posts but your own, maintenance is quite a hot topic just now & I believe is talked about in many threads.
I think it's safe to say that most regular posters on the site wish to be maintained, some want diamorphine, some methadone, some bupe. People can lead productive lives on all three substances if provided legally.

TPV - How can maintenance be illegal? That's just obserd!! Who could come out with such tripe? If maintenance were illegal then they would not have given it to me at court via my court registered DIP worker. Where is this post going TPV. First you say they won't let you reduce at your rate - then you say they won't let you stay in maintenance and that it is somehow illegal. You need to speak to the DSP Manager for clarification or your Local PCT or PALS if this nurse or key is bothering you that much. They should cater to your queries or needs as they are supposed to be public servants working for you. Keep safe   John

Dear me, everybody was very supportive though maybe a bit worried about your method of detox & the ever so slightly weird posts. If you've been told maintenance is illeagal & you didn't challenge it or contact the Alliance for advocacy then you have only yourself to blame. The minute I heard of DSPs telling people that maintenance was going to stop I asked my GP about it & we both agreed that I would be better maintained until I decided that I wanted to reduce, as in his opinion forced reduction does more harm than good. I put a complaint in about key hassling me to reduce when myself & trained professional GP have decided what's best for me, not what's best for key or DSP & that's what the Guidlines advise. Luckily for me I have a very good relationship with my prescribing GP & I turned up at an appointment with him Orange Guidlines in hand. Far from dismissing it he thinks that we should stick to the guidlines.
No point bitchin at the posters here, I think most of us have had to do the same if we want to stay in maintenance. If you feel like you've been forced off your script & want it back go complain to your DSP.
