Oh sorry to be a posting pain again but here is the addiction Dr. Peter Ferentzy's website (Link below). The one who's link to his article I posted ( Is methadone really a killer?) above. I always wondered how he was so informed on addiction. It turns out he used to drink and smoke crack. Amazing!

What do you mean Matty? I have posted a link to a professor of addiction. I can't see what you mean by saying what do I mean. I think I am entitled to post links in my own thread.

Interesting article usandthem.
I tried to add my comments but it wouldn't let me for some reason.
It's always nice to see a pro methadone maintenance piece in the press, or in these times, even an non anti one!

Thanks Sapphire I was amazed to see someone who has experienced the worse- addiction can throw at them - to someone who is now a professor and lectures on it. He also has books out which look very interesting to read about policy surrounding drug treatment and understanding addiction. I have looked at his website and he is also on Twitter if anyone wants to contact him.

Depends on your tolerance & how much you take at one time really.

These are just links to articles on the web OP8S and are very MMT friendly or bias as the other side would say. The title is just rhetorical and is the name of the author's article. Maybe I should change the title name as it is raising eyebrows on this site! haha
I think I will change it. Any thoughts

huffingtonpo
Overdose deaths are one thing.
Total Extra Deaths is the more inclusive forensic and demographic statistic of interest. TED is used to calculate the deaths caused by wars -- where such as the Brit and American military organizations try their damnedest to push a stat based on violence alone.
In Iraq, for example, the violent deaths were about a tenth of the total extra deaths -- deaths more than the usual population mortality.
With methadone in the picture, TED is also what you want to consider. Natural cause deaths can go to cardiac failure, to increased mortality from other diseases, from the effects of running low blood oxygen over decades. Deaths at 53 or 57 from things that normally show up at 78 or 87 -- not great.
Methadone has major side effects. Heroin is worse.
We are getting lower TED stats in New York with Subutex. Weaker side effects -- simple as that. And we advise exercise programs for all addicts, the floor-model stationary reclining bicycles at the very least.
We've had some great people here who were also addicts. Musicians, by the dozens. We got way tired of losing them early.
