To be Maintained

Well what a morning ive had with my new Keyworker,the first time i have heard the word "Maintained" in years.First off i really thought i was walking into the lions den this morning,i was surprised to say the least when a fresh faced young lad said "Hi im Luke,pleased to meet you",i pretty well know in seconds if im going to get on with someone or not, and im pleased to say  my instincts are still working lol.I was late as there was an accident and didnt have much time,did a risk assessment and then he mentioned the word Maintained,you could of knocked me off the chair with a feather duster,had to say to him that it was the first time i had heard "Methadone Maintenence" coming from a keyworkers mouth in 6 years or more ,all i ever hear is reducement.Anyway we talked about my script(meth and benzo)and we both agreed that both my scripts would be stopped where they are and im to continue to stay on that until im ready to reduce.Its the first time ive felt comfortable with a key in years,he said we need to get to know each other and will go from there,so im well pleased.Really thought it was going to be a nightmare,we all have had talks about young Keyworkers and their foreward approach or trying to make an impression,but i really think he is on the same page as me,after years of shit Keyworkers and no appointments i can finally say i have a Mental Health Nurse/Keyworker that thinks Methadone Maintenence is the way to go,and it is'nt all about "Reducement",im still on alert and know there is a long way to go ,at least im not worrying everytime i see my nurse/KW that im going to be reduced or it is going to crop up.I know it will come but when im ready and not when the D.S.P are forceing you to or getting hoodwinked into reducement.

Ohh thats good that your comfortable with the new key as this can be very hard to find at times when all they do it come and go.
Yeah, they have been saying up up and upped more till my body cant handle it, so they must br changing their minds on maintenance.

The topic is of course methadone maintenance and it shows that some people think that this applies to every user. How dumb - what shocked me most was the star rating of 7/10 it got. Maybe it would have got 10/10 on Wired-in Comment below.

Methadone is the worst thing any one can use to come off Heroin, my husband was a heroin and methadone addict for 21 years. I have known him on methadone, he came off all drugs in the beginning of the year and is clean now for 8 months and he is a complete different person! When ever he was on methadone before he is just a selfish person and he thinks just like an addict wanting his hit of methadone each day, just following the same habbit, just another addiction, the only thing is that it's legal, what a waste of life, quality of life, you can do it without that crap, just invite Christ into your life, because I'll tell you without him the Devil(heroin, methadone, subutex........) will get you down.

Froude: Well done it seems like you have landed a more knowledgeable and understanding key-worker. We all, as users, strive for this to happen. It as happened to me before many times where they give me a really good key and then the next thing you know they are off to a new position in some other town/city. It comes to something when I have to plead with the doctor to get me away from this dodgy key-worker or the all stinking DAT service. Lets hope the manager of the service doesn't sack him for not getting results. Touch wood he stays with you for the long term as you seem to have landed a good one there. Lets hope the service doesn't poison his mind and threaten him to jump on the agenda or else your a goner. One day I want to stop having these rants and post some happy stuff. The camels back is about to break for me. Well done though I almost envy you. lol! Congrats mate  Wink

As for your post usandthem, I always get a bit suspicous when christ & the devil come into it. This devil person appears to "make" people live they're lives against their own will, forcing them into some kind of addiction booze, drugs, shagging the neighbours cat etc. Then mr christ comes along & saves them, good egg that he is. People who can't even admit to themselves that they themselves made choices to get messed up or get clean & think christ did it for them are possibly the most dim-witted & dangerous of the lot.
I think we all know that good & evil don't come into it at all.
Sounds like an ok key froude...but watch out the first phase is always be-friending, see what he's saying 6 months down the line he may not be so maintenance friendly then, he might even of been told about some *bullshit* government policy. You gotta keep your guard up at all times. Take it easy mate.

I think daily self-flaggelation (sp?) is really the key. No pun intended but a 1/2 hour with your key can have the same effect sometimes.

UsandThem,I, like you strived for a decent KW,my first one in 2004(on this treatment)was brilliant,and that was a different D.S.P and everything went well until they realised i was supposed to be with the Mental Health Team that also is a D.S.P,that is where things were going wrong.Mental Health Nurses wasteing their time and mine taking up piss testing(ive replied to Ken Stringers' post)and not getting to the core of my problems,more intrested in urine(ugggh),Im am aware that if you have got a KW that is good in their job they are often poached or go to pastures new and better paid(who can blame them?).My new key said he is not going anywhere in the present future unles is sacked,which is good news for me and him lol.As for that women bleating on about her husband/boyfriend and his Methadone making him selfish,the only thing it is legal and what a waste of life,looks like she has the problem,maybe that bloke was all that anyway and the Methadone brought it out more,im sorry, people like that need crocodile clips put on their genitals with a/c running through their body.Im sorry i have no faith,if there was a higher being,he would not let all this suffering we have to go through every day.All the best UsandThem,Froude
OP8S,how are you?ok i hope.Yeah mate i know the tatics these KW use,but im a pretty good at summing people up and im pretty sure 6 months down the line he will be still head fucked from my appointments,with all on his mind is "oh god ill have to have this prozac now, ive Froude at 9.30 lol,seriously i got a good feeling about him ,he is young and wants to learn ,you can feel it ,the best thing is that he is a Mental Health Worker first and that is what i need,All the best Froude

usandthem - I saw that too on patientreview and posted a response about how kicking people who are maintained and doing well off scripts is very dangerous and got an email saying they might publish some of my comments in some magazine they do.

Haven't heard anything since so I presume my views were a bit radical for them.
