I haven't been around for a while, but I saw this and thought of you:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2011/jun/26/drug-death-capital-brighton-treatment-punishment?intcmp=239
I'll be interested to see whether the localism agenda can be used in this way.

Owwwh!!
BRILLIANT:))..
At least this lady is stood-up and not shouting as it seems that she is been listened to which is needed and it has come at the right time judging by what people are writing on the papers blog, seems a good idea and should have been talked about years ago!
At least for heroin maybe it can soon be seen in a different light not, as a illness of some sort and not as a crime..
Well done to the lady, certainly achievable and we commend her for her evidence basing policy
Gonna get back out in that sun for a bbq in garden, Bit stuffy tho but I shant moan about that.

Good for Caroline Lucas but what a shame this is only reported in the Guardian.
Not quite sure what the new 'localisation' policy involves - surely not Amsterdam-style cafes? - but it sounds promising.

Well at least she has said "prohibition and abstinence are not working".
Maybe she'll spread the good word.

Interesting to note CRI's involvement also. So far, CRI (in Milton Keynes anyway) seem far more interested in stability than abstinence.
Go Lucas!!!

A voice of sanity in the wilderness !!! About time. Much respect to the lady concerned. A few more Green party MP's in Westminster are much needed.

What does this mean will happen tho? Just no charge off the police or maybe prescribement of Diamorphine??
I just don't get it! Suppose I want to know the in's an out's of it first before I say all towns should adopt this approach.

Someone I spoke to late last year is part of RIOTT in Brighton and at the time was concerned that funding was going to be pulled. Although not yet completely guaranteed it seems that there is hope that RIOTT will continue.

At last a politician pushing for a debate on drug policy in Westminster
I've just visited her blog/site & posted my comments which I hope will be there for all to see in 48hours ( so they can vet it first, I'm pretty sure that they will add it. I wasn't in the least offensive, or un-accurate...I hope ). Get in there all you Opiate-All Stars & post your comments, the poor lady belongs to the Green party, quite a minority in Parliment so the more support we can give her the best as far as I can see. It may even allow her to open a debate if enough interest is shown.

I found this very interesting to read, its from 2001, We all know that its true, Even MP's know its true, But what's it with them? You can not tell them the truth, They wont have non of it, There Right your wrong, Its like them annoying people who have something to say on every topic and think they are always right, even though there wrong, they wont back down!....it gets to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!
