How long does your body take to be free of Methadone

Hi All,

Sorry not been on as much recently but ive had a few major things happening in my life,some good and some totally un-manageable but hey,im still here.

I need you guys and gals to help me out here!!!

Over 3 weeks ago i was on 110ml of Methadone daily,dispensed weekly.Methadone saved my life,if i hadnt have been prescribed 160ml a day back then i would most certainly be dead due to the amount of gear i was injecting.I finally stopped using and eventually my life became manageable again,i could work,have relationships,my family back in my life,friends and i was relatively happy.

I have over the past 6 months had certain pressure from some people to get off of Methadone due to their naivety and the stigma attached to it!!

I awoke over 3 weeks ago and made a decision i was gonnae try and come of the Methadone by myself which i must add is not the adviseable road to go down but i was determined and in a positive mind set.I didnt take my Meth and just took my 4 yellows for the day and was surprised i didnt feel to bad,just a runny nose and sneezing about 30times in a row.

Up until today i still havnt taken any Methadone at all which i am really proud of myself for doing and up until now have sleep great and felt very few withdrawl pains.As i said thats over 3 weeks now but how long does in take your brain and body to totally free from Methadone Addiction,i say addiction because i felt i had to take it every day to feel normal,whatever normal is or should i say to make me and my life manageable!!!

Is my body free of Methadone now or will it take longer-if so what is the Medical Professions view on this when someone stops using Methadone??

Please,please if anyone has any experience or knowledge on this could the take a minute or two to post and tell me what i should know or do,it would be extremely helpful and possibly encouraging to know what might happen or not.

Hi mac, are you saying that you just stopped takning 110ml methadone 3 weeks ago & aren't on any other opiates, so your now drug free? If so I'm not surprised that you haven't found the time to post in the last three weeks. Were you not horribly ill ? You show amazing determination if this is the case. I self detoxed from heroin 3 x properly I would say though about 2 months was the maximum I was ever not using within again. Certainly the first 5 days was quite horrendous, by then total insomnia was just accepted for another couple of weeks. I'm sure that most people have at some time tried to come off gear under their own steam, so I'll not go into it.
I've always been under the assumption of methadone soaking into our fatty tissue that the withdrawl from it was far worse & more prolonged. I suppose the number of years you have been taking it effects this.
Do you mind giving me a run down on this reduction process & the withdrawls that you experienced. From your post it appears as if it was "a walk in the park " though I am sure that it wasn't. Maybe it was just your time to get meth & opiate free.

I have posted  in the past few weeks about this,and i myself have no explanation for it what so ever,a friend of mine who uses this forum and is ptetty well educated in Methadone and its withdrawl, he cant explain it either.

The first couple of days were hard but after that nothing,im prescribed 4 x 5ml Diazapam per day and apart from one day where i took 1ml through a syringe a friend gave me ive been fine.I have got to the stage i am gonnae stop trying to analyse it and just accept thats the way it is just for today,i have 21 bottles of Methadone sitting as im scared the shit is gonnae eventually hit the fan.
I to came off 60 ml a few years ago and still using and it was horrendous so i understand your sceptism pal!!

Top one mate, I take my hat off to you. If anything it shows that everybody is different & anything is possible if you set your mind to it. I've got a mate that did a similar thing, he decided to stop using one day & in his own words said "fuck this", he's a right stubborn ****
