Free/cheap software

I thought Peter had started a thread about this, but I can't find it. I know there have been some good recommendations out there on the board for free/cheap software that's not about protecting your computer (I'm terribly reliant on GIMP these days as a result of a suggestion from Peter), and thought it might be a good idea to have a place for them. Here it is (GIMP's ace, by the way).
I'm currently looking for some good desktop publishing software that doesn't cost an arm and a leg - any suggestions?

As a charity we use -
http://www.ctxchange.org/
. They charge admin fees which are very reasonable. Bit limited in choice for publishing but have Office 2007. You have to get a minium of 5 licences. The Alliance could apply.

That CTXchange site is a find though.

Try "Paint.NET' another free / open source excellent graphics program (just google it!) You can use newer versions of MS Word to lay out for DTP, in fact there's not much you can't do (with a bit of investment in time and research plus judicious use of the Help files).
