Transform's latest publication is a provisional cost benefit analysis of the prohibition of heroin and cocaine in the UK, alongside a comparative costing under a speculative regulated model.  The whole thing can be found here http://www.tdpf.org.uk/TransformCBApaper.pdf, but if that's a bit much, here's the Guardian's condensed version http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2009/apr/07/drugs-policy-legalisation-report.

Don't see mention of the government's changes to closing hours for pubs/clubs and the like. Or changes that allow almost any non-residential site to be converted to a clubbing venue.

This government could spend 10s of billions a year on what is called the "the punitive prohibitionist approach" to drugs and not match up to the damage of allowing all-night, 24/365 drug-use partying.

Closing hours were dropped a couple years back when a rash of knife-and-bottle fights brought bad press. Cowards in government Huh? What's new ?
