this american life is a radio show in the states (they also have 2 seasons of tv series they produced for showtime, also pretty good) - it's a weekly show, it's got real life stories, and each week it comes with a theme. there s usually anything between 2 and 5 "acts" in one show. it's often intriguing, sometimes sad and sometimes funny, every once in a while quite frank and revealing, too. you can listen to it online, and I must admit that over the last year or so I have probably listened to more than half of the episodes you can find in their archives.

one episode from 2006 is titled "sink or swim" and is about "people who are in over their heads and trying to stay afloat". one of the acts in this episode is about a guy who is offering ibogaine treatment:

A former heroin addict realizes that he wants to help other addicts kick their habits. The problem is, he wants to do this using a hallucinogenic drug – ibogaine – that is completely illegal, and which requires medical expertise he doesn't have. Lu Olkowski and Trey Kay reported this story, which is narrated by Lu. (16 minutes)

you can listen to it online (free) or download (1 usd) at http://www.thisamericanlife.org/Radio_Episode.aspx?sched=1161
