Hi there,
Atlthough daughter has a positive Hep C result and waiting liver biopsy and results I can now say that (dare I) thing are looking good!!
A complete change, phsyically, mentallly, morally it is like I have her back again.  She actually made me laugh several times yesterday and it was lovely.  A weight gain of nearly 3 stone, periods regained, better complection, tidy room(that says a lot), looks great and above all has a positive attitude towards herself.
I am fully aware that it could change it is so lovely having my daughter back.
Four years down the line I could not be happier Grin

Hi Maggie, that's great news and long may it last, thanks for keeping us updated. Is your daughter still on a maintenance prescription?

Hope the results from her liver biopsy are okay.

Hi Linda
Yes she is still on maintainence perscription, still 60ml and she is ok on that for the moment.  She is still on supervised consumption because her alchohol levels are too high, although she is waiting to get into alchohol detox pretty soon. She has all her results at the begining of April when she sees her consultant and in her words 'she is bricking it!!'
However I think she is resigned to the fact that she has Hep C and she drinks far too much but last year she would never have gone to the doctors in the first place to find out her fate so she is making huge progress.
Never the less she still drives me insane, we feel huge guilt about our lack of sympathy at times.
Will keep you updated.
Take care
Maggie

Maggie

This is indeed good news. Although being a parent myself, and knowing that guilt comes with the job, I want to say that I think you've been a wonderfully supporitve mother, and ask you to try not to feel too gulilty if your sympathy dries up at times; it's called being human.

All the best for the future.

I agree with Beryl and I also relate to what you're saying Maggie. I think as human beings it's natural to become gradually desensitised to situations and emotions we're continually exposed to.  I remember how I went from shock, horror and denial  when realising my son was using heroin, to acceptance and almost 'matter of fact' over time. There are worse things that can happen to our sons. daughters and people we love.

Let us know how your daughter gets on Maggie when you can. Like you say, it's progress for her to be taking responsibility for her life and facing the consequences of her actions.  You and your husband have helped her enormously in reaching this stage in her life. She may not have got there without you so please don't underestimate how invaluable your support has been and be more generous to yourself. If you have a bad day or she's driving you nuts then so be it. I think we can all drive each other crazy at times when we're in constant, close proximity.

Take care,

Linda x
