Karma

At the side of each post, just below the poster's name, you'll see the word 'Karma', and two choices -- applaud and smite. The idea of this is whenever you see a post that you think of extremely high quality and contributes towards a vision of these forums that you think is desirable, you click on 'applaud', and by doing so, increase the karma of that poster.

Over time, posters whose posts are valued will increase their karma levels and that might be a clue to the reliabilit of a posters input or opinion to new members.

Alternatively, if you see a post that you believe detracts from a vision of the site that you'd like to see, click on 'smite' and said poster's karma is reduced. Stuff like inaccurate info, offensive posts, spam, etc. should all be reasons for smiting. Not liking a poster, or disagreeing with someone's opinion are *not* reasons for smiting.

Play nice or I'll take it away.

Hi Peter,
This is a great idea but I can't see any choices, applaud or smite, at the side of the 'Karma' icon.

That aside really need to catch up with you re; upcoming training dates that we have already been in discussions about, Doncaster & Barnsley.
Are you around tomorrow?  I will be working from home all day so maybe we could "touch base" Grin Grin Shocked Shocked Cry Cry OMG what am I saying Roll Eyes

Catch up tomorrow

Hi Peter,
Thought it might have been the browser I was using, Firefox, never really use IE but have just checked it and have the same thing, no extra icons. I've now seen some posters are getting the 'karma' credits why can't I see these extra icon's?
Maybe I need to do a restart of the system if you have done an update today my laptop has been on all day and maybe the changes won't run until I've done that.
Does that sound about right only just thought that might be it Embarrassed Embarrassed
I'll give it a go now Wink

They aren't really icons, dave. What you should see are the words in a box. Underneath Karma, you should see two words -- applaud and smite. You can click on either word, and that either adds to that person's Karma, or it reduces it.

I always use Firefox, never use Explorer, and I use it with the AdBlockPlus and the NoScript extensions, but I can still see them. It might be worth either:

a.) Clearing your browser cache. In Firefox, go to Tools/Options/Advanced/Network and you'll see the clear cache button.
b.) Trying a force reload. Hold down Control and Shift keys, and then hit the reload button. (The circular arrow thing on Firefox's toolbar.)

It's in pretty small text, so I'm wondering if you might be struggling to see it? I'll give your previous post some Karma and see if that somehow forces a reload?

Also-- you don't get the applaud/smite options next to your own posts. You can only give it to other people, you can't give it to yourself.

Here's a picture of your last post, Jules, with the Karma stuff highlighted. Click on it to see a bigger version. Do you not see any of that on your computer?

They aren't on your own posts -- just on everyone else's. Are you saying you see the boxes, but can't read whats inside them, or that there's nothing inside them, or that there are no boxes?

I guess you can show me on Wednesday and I'll sort it then?

Meanwhile, I've got an 11.00 and I've got to get a document ready for it, but I need to talk to you later today. I'll give you a call when I get home. -- probably around 3.00pm

There's no boxes beside people's names and I couldn't click on what you posted me earlier....I will indeed show you on Wednesday...and you can show me how to access Alliance email away from the office.

Look forward to talking to you - if you get my voicemail, leave a message and I'll call you back as I'm hoping to bugger off by 3.30!

OK I think you have to have made a minimum of 10 posts before you get to be able to grant people Karma, which might explain Woland, but wouldn't explain yours, Dave.

Also, tbh, I've just got in and I'm finishing -- I've had enough. Training calendar is a big agenda item for Wednesday. Will it keep until then? If not, we could do Tuesday. Also, Julie, I'll email you or call you Monday.

Also: my Karma has increased to 3, so its obviously working for someone. If it's working for you, could you say here please?

Working for me, but I'm an administrator, so that may or may not help.

Hi Peter, I've been accumulating 'karma' (+2 -1)  Grin Grin Grin and it seems some people are able to see the little extra boxes so It's not a big deal for me at the moment we've got other more important things to keep on top of, that aside it great to see you putting these extra things on the forum it keeps folks interested, as far as I'm concerned there's nothing worse than looking at a website that's year's out of date Huh?
Monday is better for me to catch up as on Tues; I'm out early for NTA Regional Forum in Leeds and Wed's is TM so I'm out of the gaff for 0730.
Anyway we will catch up soon Wink
Have a good weekend
