Finished 'the beilevers' by zoe heller - another good book by her - she really is good at comic/tragic writing - her observations, the comments her characters come out with are very funny, their lives usually linked by some tragedy.  Don't think she has written any more yet, - I am definately a fan and will be reading everything of hers.

Have finished 'truth or dare' which I was reading to my son - and it really was very good.  He really loved it, - and I enjoyed it too.  Don't know what I'm going to read him next - might try to get that one you suggested WillC - it hasn't got anything to do with that film that Mel Gibson directed has it?  alli x

Anyone got any suggestions for good light reading?  I'm off on holiday next month and need something that I can fit around baby-wrangling.

Hi Ursula, my computer has been freezing on me over the past few weeks blocking me from replying, not that I haven't tried as, I write out a responses press send and after 5 minutes or so it goes into connection failed.

If your not away on holiday, I would say an easy and enjoyable read was Random Acts of heroic love Danny Sheinnman

I am nearly finished my fourth female author crime novel, seem to be reading books I am getting given lately. Hope you have a great holiday

I have been reading a pile of books over the past few months. Intrestinglly I went into a charity shop yesterday and picked up 6 george pelicanos books, which is odd as I never see books in the charity shop by this author. I finally caught on with the james lee burke style of writing.

I am off to a funeral tomorrow as another good drugs worker goes to the great spirit sky.

I am in the middle of Lisa Gardner's 'Say Goodbye'. I like her books since I bumped into them from picking up I think it was 'Hide or The Third Victim'  from my mums last year when skuttling around her house searching for books. I also bought a new James L Burke novel yesterday.

I have moved onto another James Lee Burke novel the Tin Roof Blowdown, its set in New Orleans during and post hurricane Katrina. When America allowed one of its greatest states to drown from institutional racism.

I've read all of Burke's stuff and Tin Roof Blowdown is one of his best. Currently reading the latest Pelicanos in hardcover. Also good stuff.

I read Bill Bryson's - 'down under' which was a funny and interesting read - now I have started Jodi Picoults stuff - which is OK, escapism I guesse, - although there is a fair bit of paranormal activity in a few of them, which I'm not impressed with - they become less credible - the author's can then write absolutely anything and it becomes stupid. alli x

I have nearly finished the Tin Roof Blowdown, it is a good book. I have a pile of Pelicanos to read as I bought 6 from a charity shop a few weeks back, it was a kind of lucky find as I got the a 2 a dollar.

Has anyone read 'Hillsborough-The Truth' by Phil Scraton? I have just got it from the library and wondered if anyone had heard of it.

I have just finished reading Homicide by David Simon (the creator of the wire), and apart from it being a bit slow at the beginning, it was a good book. I have also got the Jamie Carragher autobiography to read as well.
