I was on H for 10 years and have been stable on Methadone for 3 and now after 13 years of constipation I think I may have found a cure. I woke the other morning with the worst hangover ever, this was more of a stomach thing, not much of a head ache. I could not keep any fluids down I was even concerned about taking my methadone in case I just barfed it up again. I went to Morrisons to buy some Alker Selzer, but noticed it contains Paracetamol and since I didn't have a head ache I looked for something else. It was then I saw Morrisons brand Health Salts that "Quickly Relieves An Upset Stomach" and contain no Paracetamol. So I thought I would give them a go. When I got home I read the label more thoroughly and noticed that it could be used as a laxative if the dose is doubled and taken before bed, this I did and guess what? Next morning (excuse my crudeness) I had the best damned shit in years! Cheesy I would definitely recommend it. Has anyone else used this to help ease "rabbit poo"? Would this work long term?                                                                                       love to all ya!

I'd recommend Movicol as a first line treatment.

I would to.

We've mentioned movicol a few times on here. Taken reguarly it really is streets ahead of any other product.

If you ever find yourself in big trouble.... get a GP etc to perscribe a dose of picalax.... that stuff is for people who need a colonoscopy etc and clears you out completely in under 30 minutes until your sitting on the bog with pure water gushing from the old chocolate wiz wang!

Picolax, really is not nice stuff. I would try everything else before that. Remember you need extra fluids when taking opiates. Change your diet permanantly to include lots of fruit and veg, more than 5 a day I'd suggest, dried fruit as snacks might be a bonus oh and extra fluids.

Seconding the 'more roughage in your diet' suggestion. I have a friend who was plagued by opiate-related constipation, but he started to eat porridge for breakfast, with a handful of raisins in the porridge and that sorted it out for him.

Personally, the Several-cigarettes-and-plenty-of-good-strong-coffee-prior-to-picking-up-your-dose Plan Diet has always worked for me. But then I've always been a health conscious kind of a guy. That's why opiates were my recreational drug of choice.

Porridge is an excellent suggestion! I did read some research sometime or other that people who regularly eat oats/Porridge hardly ever get bowel cancer.

BIG problem with picolax. It can induce cardiac arrest as a result of (literally) dumping out potassium. It's quite an out-dated treatment, and in anyone who has any concerns about their health should only use it under close supervision.

Movicol, on the other hand, is much more gentle and safe, is effective, and you are able to take it regularly.

can you shit it, yes I can...
can you shit it, no I cant...
I got worse constipation from using buprenorphine than physeptone, which caused fizzures and piles, still get bleeding...sorry to be descriptive. I used to go through bundles of fybogel, preperation H and glycerine tinitrate or something like that. naturally I did do the porridge, all bran and fruits thing. I stable diet helps.
Glad to say the bums getting better

It's an unpleasant solution but you can always let yourself get far enough into withdrawal for your "guts to drop", that cleans you out like few other things!

1-2 large bowls of All Bran + 5ml lactulose solution + several pieces of fruit + plenty of fluids, every day = healthy bowl movements/ability to dump regularly and without undue strain. If this fails, add 1-2 Boots own Natural Senna laxative tablets before going to bed - but only for a maximum of one week (apparently).

Works for me anyway.

Who's bumped this thread after three years? Ah, it's Matty, inevitably.

As Skunkworks elsewhere observes, addicts delight in discussions of their bowel movements. Coincidentally, I've become quite an expert on the topic since one of my amps was replaced with MST. Right up there with dihydrocodeine amongst the great binding elements of the world.

There are many 'cures', most of them rather revolting. I hate fucking all-bran. A carton or two of Innocent Smoothies -  the practising junkie's fruit, as much a staple as Angel Delight used to be - a day and the problem's manageable.
